Ms. Wong Shin Tung, Founder of Kusala Education, holds a degree in Chinese Medicine from the Chinese University of Hong Kong and a Master’s degree in Buddhist Counseling from the University of Hong Kong. With a wide range of interests spanning culture, arts, and martial arts, she is particularly focused in the interconnections between Buddhism, medicine, arts, and physical and mental well-being. Since her early years, Ms. Wong has actively engaged in various forms of social service and even established a volunteer service team during her secondary school days. Her vision revolves around fostering a harmonious society that transcends religious, ideological, and formal boundaries, while also striving to bring happiness and fulfillment to both herself and others.
Throughout her childhood, Ms. Wong battled with illnesses, which inspired her to seek out wise doctors and teachers who could alleviate her suffering. During her secondary school years, she embarked on a transformative journey to Mount Wutai with Venerable Hin Hung, an experience that sparked a profound connection with meditation. This encounter eventually led her to pursue a degree in Chinese Medicine at the Chinese University of Hong Kong, where she discovered the remarkable benefits of Chinese medicine and meditation. Following her graduation, she further deepened her practice under the guidance of meditation masters such as Venerable Hin Hung and Yongey Mingyur Rinpoche, striving to maintain a state of equanimity in her mind and body throughout each moment of her life. Ms. Wong’s ultimate goal is to bring the practice of meditation, regardless of beliefs, to various domains and share the peace and joy inherent in her nature with the wider public. In 2017, she hosted her inaugural solo concert titled “Speechless,” which skillfully intertwined music, physical and mental well-being, and conveyed a compassionate message addressing emotional disorders from the perspective of a fellow patient. Subsequently, she embarked on journeys beyond Hong Kong to meet inspiring teachers and acquire knowledge worldwide, gaining invaluable life experiences through travel.
Ms. Wong’s involvement in arts and culture extends both onstage and backstage. She has participated in numerous choirs in Hong Kong and Australia, including Hong Kong Melody Makers, SingFest Festival Chorus, and Royal Melbourne Philharmonic Choir. Furthermore, she has served as an Artistic Director for a creative team, while also showcasing her talents as an actor, soloist, and accompanist. Wong’s unwavering passion for creativity permeates all aspects of her life. She firmly believes that life itself is a canvas for creativity and that anyone with a yearning to uncover the beauty of life can construct realm of tranquility without boundaries. Inspiring from her piano teacher, Dean Sky-Lucas, an Australian pianist and tenor, she intergrates the knowledge of Chinese medicine and music to soothe one’s body and soul. Also, her vocal teacher, Mr Francis Mok, ignites her way of mindful singing.
Throughout her journey, Wong has come to recognize the importance of mentorship and the support of friends in personal growth. While tirelessly pursuing her ideals, she remains deeply grateful for the guidance and encouragement she has received from her mentors and friends. In light of this gratitude, she established Kusala Education, which embodies the principle of “taking from society and giving back to society,” perpetuating the seeds of good will.
