Sunny WU

Sunny Wu embarked on his violin journey at the tender age of 7. Under the tutelage of Ms Cheung King Lam, he honed his skills before advancing to study with the esteemed Hong Kong violinist, Mr Lung Heung Fai. Wu’s dedication and commitment led him to achieve the prestigious Licentiate of Trinity College London (LTCL) in violin performance.

Wu’s passion for music further blossomed as he pursued a BA degree in Music at the Hong Kong Baptist University. During his time there, he had the privilege of being appointed as a first violinist for the renowned Hong Kong Baptist University Symphony Orchestra (BUSO), Collegium Musicum Hong Kong (HKCM) and the Metropolitan Youth Orchestra (MYO). Additionally, Wu was appointed as the principal second violinist for the New Century Green Orchestra (MGO). Notably, in 2020, he mesmerised the audience with his performance of excerpts from The Butterfly Lovers Violin Concerto at Tsuen Wan Town Hall.

During his university years, Mr Wu’s journey led him to the teachings of Buddhism, sparking a deep interest in meditation. This fascination led him to attend various meditation retreats. After graduating from university, he took refuge in the Three Jewels under Venerable Hin Hung. Throughout his spiritual pursuits, Mr Wu delved into the interplay between music and meditation, recognising the benefits of the Buddha’s teachings for music education and performance.

Today, Mr Wu actively contributes to the realm of music education. He passionately imparts his knowledge to young minds, teaching violin ensembles and violin classes in various primary and secondary schools. He serves as the Director of Music Department and Music Instructor at Kusala Education, where he nurtures and guides aspiring musicians. In addition to his educational endeavours, Mr Wu co-founded the “Half Baked Buddies” 50+ Mind, Body, and Soul Music Project. This initiative aims to raise public awareness about physical, mental, and spiritual health through the power of music. With unwavering dedication, he aspires to give back to society, leveraging the transformative potential of music to positively impact lives.
