Tony is a Medical Laboratory Technologist. He began his career as an Associate Medical Technologist at Pamela Youde Nethersole Eastern Hospital before transitioning to his current role as a Health Informatics Analyst at the Hospital Authority. In this capacity, he focuses on laboratory information standards, contributing to the efficient and accurate management of medical information. Tony’s passion for science and medicine has been evident since childhood. He earned a BSc in Medical Laboratory Science from The Hong Kong Polytechnic University in 2015, followed by an MSc in Medical Laboratory Sciences with a specialisation in Clinical Chemistry from The Chinese University of Hong Kong in 2019. Currently, he is furthering his knowledge by pursuing a BSc in Data Science and Business Analytics at the University of London, showcasing his dedication to continuous learning and professional growth.
Throughout his academic journey, Tony has excelled in various competitions and research projects. In 2010, he was awarded the Third Prize in the Hong Kong Physics Olympiad, which inspired him to pursue further training at the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology, where he achieved the Second Prize in the Pan-Pearl River Delta Physics Olympiad in 2011. Notably, he participated in a study investigating the prevalence of Methicillin Resistant Staphylococcus aureus in the nasal and oral cavity of healthy elderly individuals in Hong Kong, showcasing his commitment to contributing to meaningful research in the medical field. For his master’s thesis, Tony delved into the application of exponentially weighted moving averages for quality control in laboratories, underscoring his dedication to improving laboratory practices and efficiency. Additionally, he generously shared his knowledge by tutoring secondary school students in various scientific disciplines, including physics, chemistry, biology, and integrated science. His former secondary school recognised his expertise, inviting him to mentor current students. Apart from his passion for the natural sciences, Tony has a keen interest in computers, informatics, and data science. He leverages this interest to automate decision-making processes in laboratories, streamlining operations and enhancing accuracy. In recognition of his expertise in health informatics, he achieved the Certified Health Informatician Australasia certification in 2021. Furthermore, he has sought to expand his knowledge in data science by enrolling in online courses at the University of California, San Diego.
Tony’s diverse interests extend beyond his formal education and work in the medical field. During his leisure time, he actively participates in choirs and engages in language learning.
